Diabetes takes over the lives of 13 million men and 12.6 million women on average. Over 60% of lower limb amputation occurs in diabetes patients. This disease is also the leading cause of kudney failure.

The Islet Society is a scientific forum for the exchange and discussion of clinical and experimental results and experiences relevant to islet research in the context of prevention, treatment and cure of diabetes mellitus. This society aims to serve the islet research communities throughout the world in providing a forum for the open exchange of knowledge and expertise in order to facilitate the discoveries and their implementations for the prevention, treatment and cure of human diabetes and its complications.
